Shark Fun Facts

SHARK FUN FACT:   Many sharks will go into a state of tonic immobility, temporarily paralyzed, when turned upside down.  The female nurse shark will  go into a state of tonic immobility when you press under her chin.  Wonder who figured that out the first time?

 

SHARK FUN FACT: Sharks have a keen sense of smell, some can detect a drop of blood in an Olympic-sized pool, 1 part per 10 billion parts of water.

 

SHARK FUN FACT:  Great White Sharks must move to breathe but the nurse shark can pump water over its gills to breathe while resting on the seafloor.

 

SHARK FUN FACT:  Some sharks have a superpower to detect electric fields given off by other animals.  The shark’s special organ is called ampullae of Lorenzie.

 

SHARK FUN FACT: A group of sharks is called a Shiver and a baby shark is called a Pup.
